frontiers in olfaction trieste   This Conference organized by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste will bring together researchers in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, behavioural sciences, neurophysiology, basic biology, and genomics in an attempt to evaluate the current state in the field of olfaction.

The ICTP is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences that operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and UNESCO, and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It is located near the Miramare Park, about 10 kilometres from the city of Trieste, Italy. The centre was founded in 1964 by Pakistani Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam.

Driven by novel experimental techniques, including next-generation sequencing, optogenetics, and imaging/recordings in awake behaving animals, the experimental data is undergoing an explosive growth. At the same time, a variety of computational and theoretical models ranging from labelled-line to spike coding have been proposed to explain the data.

This conference will cover different topics such as olfactory coding and perception, olfactory search and algorithm and experimental and theoretical neuroscience of olfaction.
