These products have hydrophobic groups, which have long hydrocarbons chains. This structure allows the formation of big molecular aggregates named micelles. This micelles prevent than malodorous molecules (osmogenic molecules) can be detected by the human sense and despite they are still present in the air, they don’t smell anymore.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to describe and evaluate the project of odour impact reduction by means the design, erection and start up of a osmogenic barrier through a spray system of specific products, in waste mechanical and biological treatment plant.

The dimensions of area to treat have required a suitable design and settings of equipment to use, by means of 2 high pressure systems fully automated, including a prior softening device for water and UV filter, and fitted with individual anti-freezing systems.

Also, both machines have been connected through two external boxes to the SCADA system of the plant, fitted with meteorological station, for a better management of the installation and saving of neutralizer product.

Finally, the odour concentration was measured, through dynamic olphactometry (EN 13725) in several samples collected to evaluate the neutralizer products through osmogenic barrier to use.
