Abstract
The management of odours caused by industrial emissions requires standarized and technically-proved methodologies for a correct diagnosis, allowing to assess the problem objectively and, therefore, for proposing the best solutions from an economical and technical point of view. Among the methodologies for odour diagnosis, the emission studies (based on NCh3190 / EN13725) and immission studies (based on VDI3940), are the most used. These methods can be complemented by chemical studies in order to select the best odour control/abatement technology. Depending on the application, there are several posibilities: biofiltration, scrubbing, oxidation (thermal and catalytic), adsorption, etc. In this work, a new methodology for diagnosis and control of odours, is proposed. Odocity-Map is a web supported software that allows to register objectively, the complaints of a panel of city residents caused by odours. This software is based on the German Standards VDI3883 (Part I and II), and allows to take a "photography" of the city nuisance-map and its possible causes. In this work, a Spanish city located in the Mediterranean coast with an important industrial area, is studied. The participation of residents of different city areas, and the frequency of winds during the project, showed the influence of the industrial emissions in the city.
