Abstract

  The present study shows the development of an odour management system at the Biosolids Integral Management Centre – El Rutal which, because of the biosolids characteristics and the operational activities of the Centre could be considered as an odour potential source for the nearby locations.

To determine the contribution that the Centre would have on their environment, a study of the dispersion of odors was performed, which was compared with the base situation generated by the pre-existing emitting sources in the area. A system of continuous recording of odor perception was implemented once the operation began, based on a sensory monitoring and recording of calls from nearby communities.

The results of different studies have allowed an overview of the behavior of odors in the sector, allowing to identify the limitations of each odor evaluation system, limitations that are complemented by the strengths of each method.
