Last year, a total of 40 laboratories from 14 different countries participated in an Interlaboratory Comparison (ILC) to check proficiency according to European standard EN 13725/2003. However this ILC did not study the influence of “Sampling” on the overall uncertainty. Taking an odour sample is another parameter to take into account in the estimation of the overall uncertainty of a lab, and the Hessian Agency for the Environment and Geology (HLUG) organized a regular test with over 15 labs for the very first time. From the 27th to the 28th of October, the first ILC that considered not only analysis, but also stack sampling was carried out.
Interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs) also called Proficiency Tests are organised to check the ability of laboratories to deliver accurate testing results to their customers.
The first meeting of the Working Group (WG) 41 that is dealing with the first European Norm that will regulate the so-called “e-noses” took place in Antwerp, Belgium the 22nd of October 2015. The name initially given to the Norm was "Electronic sensors for odorant monitoring" but this is just a provisional title.
Due to the tragic events that occurred last night in Paris and the corresponding security measures currently in place in France, the 6th IWA Conference focusing on odour management in the environment has been finally cancelled.
The organization of the event has apologized for the inconvenience to the attendants of the event and they has committed to publish the papers and presentations in a format to be defined in the near future.
Just a day after the conference and we are exhausted, but quite happy with the good feeling left behind this event. We had a full room at the Conference hall and we also registered over 1000 connections to watch the plenary sessions in streaming, so we can say that we reached the goal. Along these two intensive days we enjoyed many interesting presentations. Due to the amount of talks, the speakers had to manage dinamically to present a 12-min speach following 3-minutes of questions. Due to this intensive sessions, we seasoned them with 1-hour coffee breaks, to rest and to take the time to enhance the vibrating networking in the room.
The level of the speakers was exceptionally high and we all truly enjoyed the experiences proposed by the many professionals, universities and private companies that participated in this III International Conference about Odours in the Environment, that took place the 23rd and 24th of November 2015 in Bilbao, Spain. We are very grateful for your support, cause without you, this success would not have been possible.
We are glad to announce that the Bilbao-Bizkaia Water Consortium (Consorcio de Aguas de Bilbao-Bizkaia) has decided to contribute in the promotion of this conference with a Sponsorship. They have also been very kind to present a paper and to promote the event with a guided tour through their Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Galindo. Thank you guys!
The Consorcio de Aguas de Bilbao - Bizkaia (in short, Consorcio) is a publicly owned utility company. It was founded in 1967, to guarantee water supplies to the area known as Greater Bilbao. This district was formed by 19 municipalities and was, at that time, undergoing substantial growth.
The Consorcio has been working hard to abate odours in their WWTP located close to Bilbao. They have a massive array of scrubbers abating 212.000 m3/h of odorous air in the pretreatment building and a three-storey biofilter with inert packaging treating 140.000 m3/h of air from the sludge treatment building. They have also made a bunch of olfactometric studies and have succesfully applied Computational Fluid Dynamics to study the distribution of the foul air around the plant and to confine it inside buildings.
This first workshop organized by the Environmental Institute of Paraná (Instituto Ambiental do Parana, IAP) took place in the Toledo Campus of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Toledo, Brazil. The event was promoted by the IAP and had the support of the Public Ministry and some private companies. During this workshop, the president of the IAP, Luiz Tarcisio Mossato Pinto, announced that a new program for atmospheric emissions will be launched in November.
The aim of this Workshop was to discuss the mecanisms to control odours from industrial companies in the region. The Workshop was open to the scientific community, industry and companies related to environmental odour management. The registration for this interesting event was free and the conference room was full.
GravenhorstPlast A/S and Hexa-Cover A/S enters a new strategic cooperation. The collaboration means Hexa-Cover A/S takes over the global sales of the floating elements GravenhorstPlast A/S has been producing for many years, and continuously will produce.
Hexa-Cover A/S has – with the Hexa-Cover® Floating Cover – achieved a leading global position for modular floating cover solutions (i.e. against odor, evaporation, algal growth, emissions etc.).
