The terminological distinction between the quantities of stimulus and sensory effect is very important and leaves no room for misinterpretation of olfactometric results. The introduction of the odour level as a link between olfactory stimuli and effects will help to reach this objective.

One week left for the EN 16841 to be implemented at national level by publication of an identical national standard or by endorsement. Just seven days to start working with this new European Standard that describes two methods for direct assessment of odours in ambient air: The grid method and the plume method.
The dynamic olfactometry method described in EN 13725 is generally only suitable for measurement of odour emissions at the source, as the practical lower detection limit is typically ≥10 ouE/m3 (according to the Final draft of the EN 16841). Dynamic Olfactometry should not be applied directly to determine odour exposure in the field, although some authors claim that this is possible.
This webcast is organized by the Water Environmental Federation (WEF) and will focus on the dynamics of air flow through collection systems and how it relates to the release of odors. The presentations will focus on understanding the relative movement of air and wastewater through sewers and how the movement of wastewater impacts the release of odors. This webcast is priced at $40.00 for non WEF members, and it is free for WEF members.
SGS joins the IV International Conference about Odours and VOCs in the Environment in Valladolid as Silver Sponsor. SGS is a world leader in inspection, verification, analysis and certification. With more than 90,000 employees and a network of more than 2,000 offices and laboratories all over the world, SGS is one of the main global benchmarks for quality and integrity.
We are glad to announce that SGS has become our first Sponsor for the IV International Conference on Management of odours and VOCs in the Environment, that will be held the 20-21 of September 2017 in Valladolid, Spain. SGS has extensive experience in technical advice on environmental issues (environmental impact assessments, environmental surveillance plans, preliminary reports on status of soil, life cycle, etc.).
The conference about Odours in the Environment organized by the German Association of Engineers (VDI) on a biannual basis will take place the 15th and 16th of November 2017 in the city of Nuremberg. This conference has taken place in Cologne (2004), Bad Kissingen (2007), Baden-Baden (2009, 2011 and 2013), Karlsruhe. (2015). This event serves as a a forum for local discussions in German language.
The Program Committee is formed by very well known people in this field such as Peter Boeker, (University of Bonn), Ralf Both (State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection NRW ( LANUV )), Isabelle Franzen - Reuter (VDI), Uwe Hartmann ( ANECO) and Heike Hauschildt (Odournet GmbH). In addition it counts also on the help of Jörg Hellhammer (Haltern am See), Martin Kamp (Agriculture of North Rhine - Westphalia), Uwe Strotkötter (Work Inspection office Hildesheim) and Sascha Nehr (VDI).
