The 2018 WEF Odors and Air Pollutants Conference is almost here, and the registration period has just began. If you have planned to visit this important event, register before February 23 to take advantage of the early bird registration.
This time, the biennial Odor Conference organized by the Air Quality and Odor Control (AQOC) Committee of the Water Environmental Federation (WEF), will take place in the Marriott Courtyard Portland Downtown/Convention Center in Portland, Oregon (USA), from March 25 to March 28, 2018.
After the success of their last Odour Study Day, that took place on the 16th November 2017, at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire, UK, Silsoe Odours has announced the next one-day course for the 6th March 2018.
This popular one day course, organised by Silsoe Odours in partnership with RSK-ADAS, will be beneficial to regulators, odorous industries and abatement equipment suppliers. A few standards dealing with odours from different materials and developed by the ASTM have been recently published. The Standard Practice for Evaluating Foreign Odors and/or Flavors from Paper Packaging has been updated to the last version. Also the Standard Guide for Measuring and Tracking Performance of Assessors on a Descriptive Sensory Panel, and the Standard Guide for Selecting and Using Scales for Sensory Evaluation.
The US standard ASTM E619 that deals with practices for evaluating odours in paper packaging was first publised in 1995 and it was revised in 2003 and 2009. This time there are some minor changes on the title and the text that needed to be done and now the version E619-17 is finally available for purchase.

The company RUBIX Sense & Instrumentation has participated in the Consumer Electronic Show (CES 2018), for the first time. The CES is the biggest and main worldwide show in the mainstream new technologies field. The 15th on November 2017 Dr. Thomas Hübert passed away after a very short illness. Dr. rer-nat. Habil Thomas Hübert worked at the Federal Institute of Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and he was member of several groups dealing with instrumental odour monitoring such as the Working Group (WG) 41 of the Technical Committee 264 of the CEN.
Dr. Hübert was activily involved in the WG41 and he was also the coordinator of the German mirror group. The picture on the left was taken in Berlin in August last year, during the last meeting of the WG. Dr. Hübert (in the middle) was a very active person and he took part on many decisions of this group. It is a great loss for his family and friends and also for the "odour" family.
As you probably know, we have organized an International Conference about Odours and VOCs Management in Valladolid, Spain, some months ago.
We say "international" cause around 13 countries attended that event, but unfortunately this event was not bilingual (such as the one we did in Chile), but just in Spanish. We apologize for that, and we hope next one is bilingual again.
Saying that, we are very happy to share with you the abstracts of the presentations, and guess what? they are in English! the full article are only available in Spanish for the moment.
Currently, odour modelling maps represent a static photo on the impact assessment in P98, 1h. This information allows the proper design of odour control measures, regarding emission reduction or better dispersion. However, this information is not enough to carry out an operational and proactive odour management, which is associated with the operations at installations.
