Abstract

  To ensure a minimal odor impact of wastewater treatment plants and the transport facilities is mandatory to determine, in real time, the emission levels in areas of the perimeter of the facility. A dense concentration map of the odorous volatiles present in the environment would be the ideal solution from which effective decisions on emission control could be taken. The SulfSCAN project presented in this article proposes a new approach to obtaining such concentration maps by deploying a network of low cost olfactory sensors, and the development of atmospheric modeling tools to estimate the dispersion of odors in real time.
