AerscreenEZ is a friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the AERSCREEN model, the screening version of US-EPA AERMOD dispersion model. Aerscreen EZ is a great tool if you do not have met data available and there is no need for a more advanced dispersion model provided that you have the right requirements.
AERSCREEN calculates the ground level concentrations (GLCs) for the plume centerline of a single source. The calculations are done by AERMOD, which is forced to work in screening mode, in this way the worst-case concentrations are calculated.
Besides AERSCREEN, AerscreenEZ seamless interfaces all the programs needed to carry out a simulation: MAKEMET (meteorological conditions), AERMAP (terrain information processing), AERSURFACE (surface characteristic), BPIPPRM (building effect) and AERMOD (air dispersion simulations).
Many source types can be modeled: vertical stacks (uncapped and capped), horizontal stacks, flares, volume sources, rectangular area sources and circular area sources.
Simulations can be done in simple or complex terrain. The building downwash effect can be considered when point sources (stacks) are simulated.
AerscreenEZ is a useful tool to evaluate the worst case scenario in performing odor impact assessment provided that:
Odours are not caused during calm or low wind, as steady state plume models are not able to simulate the stagnation of odours.
- There are no water bodies nearby such as oceans, lakes, water reservoirs or large ponds.
AerscreenEZ allows to quickly and easily set up the simulation scenario, to define regular and/or discrete receptors and to obtain the results in tabular format and in fully customizable graphics. Graphical results can be saved as images and copied in technical reports. Simulation scenarios can be saved and re-loaded again when needed.
AerscreenEZ is distributed with a number of sample input files which allow to familiarize with the tool in a very short time.
