The Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ) is hosting an online workshop on 17 November 2026 to explore practical approaches to odour management in the rendering industry. The programme will cover emission sources, prevention and control strategies, biofilter performance, regulatory expectations and community considerations, with industry and technical specialists sharing their experience.
Odour management in rendering operations involves more than responding to complaints. Identifying potential emissions, preventing issues and ensuring control systems work effectively can help operators meet environmental responsibilities and maintain good community relationships. Read on to learn what the workshop will cover and who will be taking part.
The CASANZ Odour Special Interest Group workshop is designed for rendering operators, environmental and compliance managers, odour consultants, regulators and other professionals involved in industrial odour management. It will offer practical insights into identifying and managing emissions, alongside real-world examples of challenges and possible solutions.
The session will bring together operational experience, specialist odour expertise and a regulatory perspective. Speakers include Jim Demetriou, Air and Odour Compliance Specialist; Michael Assal of The Odour Unit; and Chris Bydder of EPA Victoria.
Presentations will be followed by a facilitated panel discussion. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore operational challenges, exchange practical insights and ask questions of the specialists.
The online workshop takes place on Tuesday, 17 November 2026. It runs from 1.00pm to 4.00pm AEDT, 3.00am to 6.00am CET, 9.00pm on 16 November to midnight on 17 November U.S. Eastern Time (EST), and 10.00am to 1.00pm China Standard Time (CST).
