The COVID pandemic period has yielded the need for more and more hybrid or virtual events. The NOSE2020 conference, organized by AIDIC and Politecnico di Milano, was held as an online event, from 19 to 21 April 2021, delayed from the original date September 2020.
The organizers decided to hold an online event due to the global travel restrictions, ensureing the safety of attendees, so unfortunately, we were not able to visit the incredible city of Taormina, Sicily, nor meet all our colleagues that we have not seen in person for over a year.
The event was scheduled for 3 days and separated into 10 different sessions. 44 interesting papers were presented at this event. A special session on the role of citizen science was held on the second day. As well as this, the new Spanish Standardization of collaborative odour maps was presented in this session, along with several case studies from the D-NOSES European project, some of which are based in Italy, Spain, Greece and Chile.
As you may already be aware, Olores.org is organizing the 9th Odour & VOC/Air Emission Conference of the International Water Association (IWA). Although it has not yet been confirmed, a hybrid event is under consideration. We have gained a lot of valuable insights from this online experience. NOSE2020, have set the organizing structure bar high for online events in this field. We will do our best to hold an equally successful event this coming Autumn (with permission of the organizers of the NOSE).
The next NOSE conference will be held in Taormina, Sicily, in September 2022. See you there!
