The 11th Conference on Odours in the Environment, organized by VDI, has just published the provisional program. The provisional program for the 11th VDI Conference on Odours in the Environment has now been published. Many sessions will focus on the intersection of science and regulation, including assessments of odour impact grounded in the legal framework of Annex 7 TA Luft. Experienced consultants Dr. Marcel Bläser and Dipl.-Met. Nora Richart will discuss the challenges encountered when using odour dispersion models in permitting procedures, while legal experts will address judicial interpretations and their implications for planners and regulators.
Attendees will also benefit from presentations on the latest standardization efforts, such as new VDI guidelines aimed at back-calculating odour emissions from ambient measurements and ways to quantify nauseating or repulsive odours. These methodological advances are complemented by practical case studies from various industries, including food processing, agriculture, and environmental consulting, which illustrate the implementation of measurement and forecasting techniques in real-world contexts.
An engaging special day prior to the conference will offer a workshop on psychological rhetoric and conflict management. Led by psychologist Muhamet Vural, this seminar targets professionals who often face challenging conversations around odour complaints, equipping them with communication strategies to de-escalate tensions and foster constructive dialogue. The conference will also feature poster sessions and an industry exhibition, providing opportunities to explore innovations and network extensively with peers.
