P48I3 Resolution 1541 of 2013 of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development MINAMBIENTE (Colombia) establishes the air quality or immission standards for the mixture of offensive odors considering the type of activity that generates odors.

These immission standards are given in European Odor Units per cubic meter (OUE/m3) expressed as the 98th percentile of the hours modeled during a year. This type of model separates 2% of odor events in which there are concentrations of immission above the regulation, which corresponds to a tolerance of 175.2 hours in a year in which there could be a higher concentration of odor, ie , approximately 30 minutes a day.

P48I3One of the biggest sources of complaints for odors in Chile is the facilities for the intensive livestock installations (poultry and pigs), mainly due to their size and sometimes their relative proximity to populated places.

This gave rise to the national environmental authority to prioritize these activities when announcing the elaboration of a regulation that would go in the line of establishing the emission limit values.

Costa Rica Reglamento Olores OfensivosThe government of Costa Rica has published a Draft Regulation for the control of offensive odours that establishes limit values for odour in ambient air. The draft is in the public consultation phase which ends tomorrow, the 17th. This legislation establishes limit values of 3, 5 and 7 odour units in ambient air for a list of activities potentially generating odour nuisance, without specifying any percentiles. In addition, a general value of 10 odour units is established for any activity not mentioned in the above list.

By registering on the website here, you may access the document and send any comment to the officers on charge of this regulation (unfortunately, just in Spanish). Now the document is the step of public consultation.
