We welcome our First Gold Sponsorship: Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium

CABB GoldWe are happy to announce that we will count on the support of the Bilbao-Bizkaia Water Consortium (Consorcio de Aguas de Bilbao-Bizkaia) as the first Gold Sponsor of the 9th IWA Odour and VOC/ Air emissions Conference that will take place in Bilbao, Spain, the 26 - 27th of October 2021. Not only will they sponsor the event, they will participate by giving us a guided tour through their Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Galindo. We want to thank them and welcome them to IWA Odour 2021!

The Consorcio de Aguas de Bilbao-Bizkaia (in short, CABB) is a public company founded in 1967. Their goal was to guarantee the water supplies of the area known as Gran Bilbao. Nowadays, that area consists of of 81 municipalities that form the 91,26 % of the population of Bizkaia and almost half of the Basque Country.

The CABB has tirelessly worked to solve the odor problem in their WWTP, Galindo, located in Sestao, close to Bilbao. They have a massive array of scrubbers abating 212.000 m3/h of odorous air in the pretreatment building and a three-storey biofilter with inert packaging treating 140.000m3/h of air from the sludge treatment building. They have also made a bunch of olfatometric studies and have successfully applied Computational Fluid Dynamics to study the distribution of the foul air around the plant and to confine it inside the buildings.

Pedro Barreiro, Manager of the Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia, has stated that: "Those of us involved in wastewater management know that odours have been the main source of complaints from communities in the immediate vicinity of our wastewater treatment plants.

Over time we have learned that we must not only treat wastewater, but we must do so with the least impact and avoid unnecessary nuisance. This is possible by dedicating resources to research, to new technologies, in short, by investing in our facilities.

For this reason, for the Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia, participating in the 9th IWA conference on odours and VOCs is an excellent opportunity to share experiences, learn from success stories and continue improving in order to provide an excellent service to the public, in a fundamental area for sustainability such as wastewater treatment."
